The Bat attests to the often-quoted words of wisdom: success has many fathers, while failure… well! The list of the authors who contributed to the triumph of the piece sprawls like the crown of a tree, and among them you can find Julian Tuwim, who translated the text into Polish. The poet’s ingenious translation of the libretto, paired with exceptional music, contributed to the success of The Bat in Polish theatres, and the sayings created by Tuwim enriched the vocabulary of those who, just like Gombrowicz, love the divine idiocy of the operetta.
The producers of the Poznań spectacle moved the plot from a health resort to an exclusive cruise ship. Somewhere in between the mess and the dining room doctor Falke makes plans to get back on Gabriel von Eisenstein, and the cruise passengers’ dizziness may be caused by something other than the sea sickness…
